Forms

What people sent you, where it goes, and keeping the spam out.

A form’s fields, its validation and where its email goes are part of the site’s setup. What arrives is yours to read, under Forms in the sidebar.

Submissions

Each form has its own list, searchable and filterable, and every submission can be opened to see exactly what was sent and when.

Exporting gives you the lot as a file for a spreadsheet — useful for an event sign-up, or for handing a month’s enquiries to somebody who does not use the control panel.

Uploaded files arrive as assets attached to the submission, so a CV or a photo sent through a form is available like any other file.

Email

A form can email someone whenever it is submitted. Who receives it is part of the form’s definition; the address it is sent from is a site setting, under Integrations.

If email stops arriving, that setting is the first place to look — and the second is your spam folder, since mail from a new domain often lands there for a while.

Spam

Two things stand between your inbox and the internet:

  • A CAPTCHA, if the form asks for one. Its keys go under Integrations.
  • Rate limiting, which Nibble applies regardless of whether you turned anything on.

Neither is perfect. If a form is being abused, a CAPTCHA is the first thing to add.

How long submissions are kept

Submissions are purged on a schedule the site sets, so a contact form does not quietly accumulate other people’s personal details for years. Export anything you need to keep before it goes.

If you are not sure what the schedule is on your site, ask whoever runs it — it is one setting.
