Set up your account and sign in safely

Change your name and password, turn on two-factor sign-in, add a passkey, and choose how the Control Plane looks and behaves for you.

An editor account can publish to the public site, so it is worth protecting well. This guide covers your own account: your name and password, two extra ways to keep it safe, and a few choices that make the Control Plane suit you.

After reading this guide, you will know:

  • How to open your account.
  • How to change your password.
  • How to turn on two-factor sign-in, and what to do with the recovery codes.
  • How to add a passkey.
  • How to change the theme, your start page and what happens after you save.
  • What to do if you forget your password.

1. Open your account

The circle with your initials, top right, opens a menu. Choose Manage profile.

The buttons at the top are Passkeys, Two-Factor Authentication and Change Password. Below them are your name and email address, then Preferences.

To change your name, edit it and choose Save. Your email address is shown but can’t be changed here. Ask an administrator.

2. Change your password

  1. Choose Change Password.
  2. Enter your current password, then the new one twice.
  3. Choose Change Password again.

Note

Changing your password signs you out everywhere else. That is useful if you think someone else knows it.

3. Turn on two-factor sign-in

With two-factor sign-in, a stolen password is not enough. Each time you sign in you also enter a six-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone, such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or 1Password.

  1. Choose Two-Factor Authentication, then Enable two-factor authentication.
  2. In your authenticator app, scan the QR code. If you can’t scan it, type the Setup key instead.
  3. Enter the six-digit code the app shows, in Verification code, and choose Confirm.
  4. Nibble shows your Recovery codes. Copy them and keep them somewhere safe, such as a password manager. Choose I’ve saved them.

Important

Recovery codes are shown only once. Each one signs you in one time if you lose your phone. Without them, you will need an administrator’s help to get back in.

Your account page’s menu then shows how many recovery codes are left. Choose New recovery codes for a fresh set (your password is asked for). The old codes stop working.

Turn off switches the authenticator app off. Your role may require it, in which case the button isn’t offered unless you have a passkey.

4. Add a passkey

A passkey lets you sign in with your device’s fingerprint, face or screen lock instead of a password.

  1. Choose Passkeys, then Add passkey.
  2. Name it so you know which device it is, for example “Work laptop”.
  3. Choose Continue and follow your browser’s prompt.

The list shows when each passkey was added and last used. Rename gives one a new name. Remove stops that device signing you in. If the button isn’t there, your browser doesn’t support passkeys.

5. Choose how the Control Plane works for you

Under Preferences:

Choice Does
Theme System follows your device. Light and Dark stay as they are.
Start page where you land after signing in: the Dashboard, or one of your collections
After saving Keep editing stays on the page. Go to the list returns to the listing. Create another opens a new blank entry.

These save as you change them, and apply to you only.

6. If you forget your password

On the sign-in page, choose Forgot password?, enter your email address and follow the email. If no email arrives, ask an administrator to send you a password reset.

7. When you are signed out

After a while without activity Nibble signs you out. A warning comes first, with an Extend Session button, so what you are writing is not lost. If something goes wrong anyway, see Save, preview and publish.
